Halloween Photo Shoot

It was 8 a.m. when I got a text from another Post-Bac student saying she was sick and needed someone to cover her that night at a photo shoot she had for Hunter College some where in East Village. Barley awake and feeling exhausted the idea sounded awful. After tossing texts back and forth and the idea around with Felix we decided to go.

We geared our selves up for a night on the town and set off into the city. Nothing could have prepared me for New York on Hallows Eve. Wow. The trains were packed with colors from funny to freaky. Contrary to what one mine think, this only slightly interrupted normal train etiquette - where people still are highly aware of you but wish to have nothing to do with you. Lets just say if I had a penny for every stolen glance people were giving one another I'd be filthy rich.

We couldn't help but laughing. It seemed like the best thing to do.

We finally found the bar around ten and after making friends with the bouncer and the bar owner we began to set up the light kit and played with the settings. As music boomed and the original Frankenstein played on the exposed brick wall people crowded the space quickly. I stood on a small table with my wide angle facing a corner where two umbrellas strobed the room all night long. Felix and I decided it was fun being the photographer at a gig like this - you meet everyone and are the only one not making a fool out of yourself. My favorite of the night was either the birthing child or the double rainbow.

Around 1 a.m. our friend Stephen took over for us for the last three hours of the shoot. Felix and I danced around a bit with the Mad Hatter, Che Guevara, and a women who taped lettuce all over herself to some European techno then headed off back to Queens.

Nexus - Squire Broel

Located on 28th 44w NY, NY the 7th floor elevators open up to a wall of glass encasing a gallery of creativity to explore and delight the eyes. This last show titled, Nexus was curated and featured many pieces from NW Artist Squire Broel. Other artists featured were Deborah Butterfield, Lynda bengils, Jim Dine and Nancy Graves. 

Squire popped in and out of the studio all week chatting with us all and taking apart large crates in the gallery center. One could relate it to Christmas. Everyday a new form would appear around the gallery and boxes would be shuffled about. In an impromptu journey to Pearl Paint a five floor art store wonder Squire asked me to photograph the show. I was more than happy to oblige and with great joy took the job.  The show brought in quite a crowd, from students to art connoisseurs of the city and even friends from the West Coast.
